RESTORATION REPORT AS AT MAY 10th 2008.

After the Boating event at The Marina, Hindmarsh Island we were able to slip the Oscar W again as there was a couple of days of Easterly wind that gave us just enough water to get the boat back on the slip, however she was still on the slip when SA experienced a March heatwave of 15 consecutive days of 35+ temperatures and this caused considerable opening of the planks. After the remainder of the steel topsides work was completed and with more caulking the boat was returned to the water to take up.

Despite delays due to low water and time constraints Oscar W has now been able to return to the Goolwa Wharf .

The “out of water” survey has been completed and this leaves a few jobs to be done before the next check to see what else remains to be done before we finally get into survey.

The jobs left for contractors are the Bilge Alarm System, Amplifier system, and guards for the steering chains.

The volunteer jobs left are; hanging lifebuoys, installing seating, installing engine boxes and wiring for emergency pumping plus various painting and minor maintenance jobs.

Oscar W will not be under survey by 30th May, but all expenditure will have been made with only the volunteer work to be done.

The whole project has been frustrating at times but very successful due to the diligence of a small band of volunteers who have contributed in excess of 4500 hours of time. As is the case with older vessels much more work than was first envisioned revealed itself and the Oscar was no exception, however allowance had been made for this in the budget.

We have had a good deal of help from three Armfield Slip volunteers whose contribution has been most valuable and it is good to see the two groups co-operating with similar objectives
